Lesson 12 – Reciprocity and Travel Considerations
Your Minnesota Permit to Carry allows you to carry a firearm in many other states that honor our permit through reciprocity agreements. However, each state has its own laws and regulations that must be followed.
🌐 States That Recognize MN Permits:
- The list changes regularly — check the Minnesota BCA or U.S. Concealed Carry maps for current reciprocity
- States like North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and others currently recognize MN permits
⚠️ Important Reminders When Traveling:
- You must follow the laws of the state you’re in — not Minnesota’s
- Each state has its own rules for carrying in vehicles, businesses, schools, and government buildings
- Some states require notification to law enforcement during traffic stops
- Prohibited locations and signage rules vary widely
Before you travel, confirm current laws and reciprocity status for your destination state. Ignorance of the law is not a legal defense.
