Carrying Firearms in Vehicles
Minnesota law allows permit holders to carry firearms in vehicles, both loaded and on their person, as long as they remain in compliance with their permit.
🚗 Rules for Permit Holders:
- You may carry your firearm loaded and on your person while driving
- The firearm may also be stored in a closed compartment (e.g., glove box or center console)
- It may be holstered, concealed, or openly visible within the vehicle
🛻 Transporting Without a Permit:
- If you do not have a permit, the firearm must be:
- Unloaded
- In a locked case or trunk
- Out of reach of vehicle occupants
🚨 Traffic Stops and Law Enforcement:
- You are not required to disclose that you’re carrying unless directly asked
- If asked, provide both your permit and government-issued photo ID
- Remain calm and follow all officer instructions
Carrying in vehicles is a major part of daily life for many permit holders — know the rules, follow them, and stay safe.
