Carrying in Places That Serve Alcohol
Minnesota law does not prohibit permit holders from carrying a firearm in establishments that serve alcohol, such as bars or restaurants. However, the law is very clear on one thing:
🚫 It is illegal to carry a pistol while under the influence:
- Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.04 or higher is considered “under the influence” under MN law
- This applies even if you are inside your own home
- Prescription drugs, marijuana (even if legal), or other substances that impair judgment are also restricted
📍 Additional Considerations:
- Businesses may post signage prohibiting firearms on the premises
- Always respect posted rules — violation can result in removal or trespassing
- Even a single drink can impair judgment — stay sharp, stay sober
While legal to carry in a bar or restaurant, doing so while consuming alcohol is extremely risky. A poor decision while armed can have permanent legal and personal consequences.
