Concealed vs. Open Carry
Minnesota’s Permit to Carry allows you to carry a handgun either openly or concealed. There is no legal requirement that the firearm be hidden from view.
🕶️ Concealed Carry:
- Firearm is kept out of sight — under clothing, in a purse, etc.
- Preferred by many for privacy and to avoid alarming others
- Less likely to attract attention from the public or law enforcement
🔓 Open Carry:
- Firearm is visible and worn outside the clothing (e.g., on hip in holster)
- Legal in Minnesota with a valid Permit to Carry
- May alarm uninformed members of the public, especially in urban areas
📣 Considerations:
- Both methods are legal, but concealment is often more socially accepted
- Be mindful of your environment — open carry may prompt 911 calls even if legal
- Some businesses may post signs prohibiting visible firearms
How you carry is your decision — but it should always be legal, intentional, and responsible. Consider your surroundings, your attire, and your training when choosing your method.
