Once you’ve completed this course and passed the live-fire qualification, you’re ready to apply for your Minnesota Permit to Carry. Here’s how the process works:
📝 Step-by-Step Application Process:
- Complete an approved firearms training course (that’s this course!)
- Receive your signed certificate of completion from your instructor
- Download or request a permit application from your local county sheriff’s office
- Gather the following:
- Completed application
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Training certificate dated within the past 12 months
- Application fee (varies by county)
- Submit your materials in person to the sheriff’s office in the county where you reside
📍 Important Notes:
- You must apply in your county of residence (or county of business if you’re not a MN resident)
- Most counties accept walk-in applications during normal business hours
- The sheriff has up to 30 days to approve or deny the application
Once approved, you’ll receive a physical permit card valid for 5 years. You must carry it on you anytime you’re carrying a pistol.
