Lesson 19 – Interacting with Law Enforcement While Armed
As a responsible permit holder, it’s important to know what to do if you are stopped or approached by law enforcement while carrying a firearm.
🚓 During a Traffic Stop or Encounter:
- You are not required to disclose that you are carrying unless asked
- If an officer asks whether you are armed, you must answer truthfully
- You must present your permit to carry and government-issued ID upon request
✅ Best Practices:
- Remain calm and keep your hands visible at all times
- Do not make sudden movements or reach for the firearm
- If you choose to inform the officer voluntarily, do so in a calm, non-threatening manner
- Follow all officer instructions carefully and respectfully
💡 Keep in Mind:
- Your demeanor and communication matter — avoid escalating the situation
- Failure to comply with lawful orders may result in charges, regardless of permit status
Professional and respectful conduct goes a long way in any encounter. Know your legal obligations and use good judgment when interacting with law enforcement.
