Course Orientation
Welcome to the Davey Defense Minnesota Permit to Carry course.
This course provides the required training foundation for a Minnesota Permit to Carry and introduces the safety, judgment, and responsibility that come with carrying a firearm in public.
A permit to carry is not just a card. It is a legal responsibility.
What This Course Covers
Minnesota law requires permit to carry training to include safe pistol use, pistol fundamentals, an actual shooting qualification exercise, and instruction in the legal aspects of pistol possession, carry, and use, including self-defense and restrictions on deadly force.
This course follows those requirements and includes firearm safety, pistol fundamentals, Minnesota permit law, restricted locations, practical carry considerations, critical incident effects, and live fire preparation.
Online Classroom and Live Fire
This online classroom is one part of the course. Live fire is the second part.
You are not finished until both parts are complete. Your certificate is issued only after you complete the classroom material and successfully complete live fire with a certified instructor.
Student Responsibility
Read the material. Ask questions when something is unclear. Handle every firearm safely.
This course teaches the required legal foundation, but it is not legal advice. Firearm laws can change, and you are responsible for knowing the law if you choose to carry.
Course Completion
To complete this course, you must:
- Complete the online classroom material.
- Attend live fire.
- Demonstrate safe firearm handling.
- Successfully complete the live fire qualification.
- Receive your signed training certificate.
The certificate documents training completion. Permit approval is handled by the sheriff according to Minnesota law.
