Davey Defense – Minnesota Permit to Carry

Lesson 8.5: Common Mistakes New Carriers Make

Purpose of This Lesson

New permit holders often create problems by handling the firearm too much, using poor gear, ignoring restricted places, carrying while impaired, or failing to keep training.

Common Mistakes

  1. Using poor holsters, weak belts, or gear that does not secure the firearm.
  2. Touching, adjusting, checking, or displaying the firearm in public without a lawful and necessary reason.
  3. Letting the firearm change your behavior.
  4. Carrying without your permit card and required photo identification.
  5. Ignoring restricted places or assuming your permit works everywhere.
  6. Carrying while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, controlled substances, or other impairing substances.
  7. Failing to practice after class.

Davey Defense Standard

Use proper gear. Keep your hands off the firearm in public. Carry your documents. Know the law. Stay sober. Keep training.

Fix small problems before they become big ones.
