Davey Defense – Minnesota Permit to Carry

Lesson 8.2: Carry Positions, Clothing, and Concealment

Purpose of This Lesson

How a pistol is carried affects safety, access, concealment, and control.

Carry Position

Common carry methods include strong-side belt carry, appendix carry, inside-the-waistband carry, outside-the-waistband carry, pocket carry, ankle carry, shoulder carry, and off-body carry.

No carry position removes the need for safe handling, trigger protection, retention, and control.

Clothing and Access

Clothing must work with the carry method.

Loose clothing, drawstrings, jackets, undershirts, belts, and cover garments can interfere with the draw or reholstering.

Do not assume clothing is safe just because it hides the firearm.

Off-Body Carry

Off-body carry requires constant control.

If the bag leaves your control, the firearm leaves your control.

Printing and Public Attention

Minnesota issues a Permit to Carry, not a separate concealed carry permit.

Printing is not automatically a violation where carry is otherwise lawful.

That said, responsible carry includes reasonable discretion. Avoid unnecessary attention when practical.

Davey Defense Standard

Choose a carry method that keeps the firearm secure, keeps the trigger protected, and allows safe control during real daily movement.

Carry lawfully. Carry responsibly. Do not create avoidable problems.
