Lesson 4.1: Carrying Is a Responsibility
Purpose of This Lesson
Carrying a firearm in public is a serious responsibility.
This lesson sets the standard for the mindset and conduct expected of a responsible permit holder.
Carrying Changes the Standard
A firearm does not make poor judgment better. It makes poor judgment more dangerous.
Once you choose to carry, ordinary decisions carry heavier consequences. Words, temper, pride, posture, and choices all matter because a firearm is now part of the situation.
You may be judged later by what you said, what you did, where you went, why you stayed, and whether you had a reasonable chance to leave.
The Firearm Is Not the Plan
The firearm is not the whole safety plan.
Awareness, avoidance, distance, communication, and the willingness to leave are all part of responsible carry.
The pistol is a last resort tool. It is not a shortcut, an argument winner, or a reason to stay in trouble.
Avoidance Is Not Weakness
Avoiding trouble is not cowardice.
Leaving early is often the win. Walking away may protect your life, your family, your freedom, your finances, and your future.
A responsible permit holder does not look for trouble. A responsible permit holder works to avoid it.
Control Yourself First
Before you can carry responsibly, you must control yourself.
Anger, pride, alcohol, drugs, fatigue, fear, ego, and social media behavior can all create problems that a firearm cannot fix.
If you cannot control your mouth, your temper, or your decisions, you have no business carrying a gun.
Davey Defense Standard
At Davey Defense, carrying a firearm is treated as a serious adult responsibility.
Carry with restraint. Avoid trouble. Control yourself. Go home safe.
